Five on Friday (Two Days Late)

1. I completely missed Five on Friday, after being out of town all week long.

2. Zach and I spent most of the week in Guntersville, Alabama visiting his family. I'll have those pictures soon, hopefully.

3. Zach and a group of our friends spent several hours on Saturday laying down our new floors. Here's the before shot I took while Zach and I were moving everything out.

Here are some of the shots I took while the guys were working. We are SO blessed to have such talented and giving friends. Please ignore the poor quality of these pictures. I took them in a VERY low light situation.

(Yes, that is the Miss USA pageant on in the background, but in my defense, it was only on because Channel 5 was breaking in sporadically as the tornado warnings were happening)

4. I pretty much almost had a heart attack while watching the finale of Brothers and Sisters tonight.

5. My new blog is pretty much complete and I'm hoping to launch it within a few hours.

This mommy-to-be is absolutely STUNNING. We met up on a beautiful afternoon. The weather was perfect, her outfits were perfect. I loved everything about the session. This couple was a delight to be around. I can't wait to meet their new bundle of joy soon.

Beckett: Six Months

Beckett is one of Zachary's best buddies, and Beckett's Mommy is a good friend of mine. I am so in love with this little cutie, I can't even stand it.

Ever since he was about 2 months old, his sweet smiles would just melt me.

Thornton Family

I rarely get the opportunity to photograph families at this stage in life. It often seems that after the age of 5, families start getting so busy and forget to take the opportunity to capture themselves.

I'm SO glad the Thornton family did this. They were SO much fun and you could tell how much they loved each other. It was really encouraging to see, and I'm glad these pictures were able to capture that.

Ali is a good example of why I love facebook so much. Ali and I grew up together and were good friends in elementary school, but over the years we fell out of touch and went on our separate ways. We both got married and started families. A couple of years ago, I was able to reconnect with her on facebook. This past weekend, I was able to meet up with her and her sweet son and husband for a family session at her parent's ranch.

I had SO much fun, Ali.

Thanks for such a fun evening. Your little man is so insanely precious.

The Smitherman Family

When my sister met her husband, he was in the Marine Corps, serving all over the world... from places like Afghanistan, to Hong Kong, to Africa, to South America. I've always been SO proud of his hard work and the way he served our country all those years. Now, he is out of the Marine Corps, and starting a life with my sister here in the Memphis area.

In the meantime, his brother, Clark continues to serve. I've had the pleasure of meeting Clark and his beautiful son Landon several times. Although I don't know Clark very well, I know that he comes from a great family, loves his son VERY much, and continues to put his life on the line for our country.

In two weeks, Clark will be in Afghanistan, and his Mom asked me to take some family pictures before he deployed. It was an honor and a privilege.

Thank you, Clark, for all you do for our country.

Five on Friday

1. I'm SO proud of my little sister this week. She's been through a HUGE emotional roller coaster and is handling it with such strength, grace and faith. She rocks my world. Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out to her this week. All the words of encouragement have lifted her spirits in SO many ways.

2. Zachary turned three months old this week. It's been a big week for us. He is now rolling over. He gave his Aunt Tori his first giggle (although I still haven't heard it!). She is also pushing up now. He is turning into a little man. I love it. He sleeps about 10-12 hours at night. I'm working on getting him on a 8:00-8:00 sleep schedule at nights.

3. Our first round of vegetables from our CSA came this week. Due to the flooding and the time of year, we're only receiving greens for 2-3 weeks. This week, we got iceberg lettuce, red sails lettuce, collards, swiss chard, and turnip greens. There's NO way that we'll eat this much in a week, so does anyone have any recommendations on how to freeze greens?

4. Zachary is staying overnight with my parents for the first time tonight since he's been born. I can't say I'm not nervous. Zach and I are also going a FULL DATE for the first time since he's been born. I'm a little anxious, but excited at the same time. Zach and I need a night to reconnect. I love you, honey and I'm looking forward to it!

5. We finished our garden in the front of our house. We've also filled the holes in our backyard and put sod down. Next week, we're putting new floors down. Here are the befores and afters of the garden in the front.

Zachary : 3 Months

My heart is heavy and burdened as I write this blog post. As many of you know, my sister and her husband are grieving the loss of their first pregnancy. For those of you who have wrapped your love and support around them, I cannot thank you enough. I know she feels SO loved.

Please be patient with me this week, as I am spending a lot of time with my sister. I'm responding to emails as quickly as I can, but my family is coming first right now.

In the meantime, Zachary turned 3 months old this week. I'll share more about that later, when the world starts turning again. For now, here are a few recent pictures of him at 3 months.

Sweet Baby Laine

I haven't talked to Christie since high school, but when I was contacted by another high school friend about a gift card for her new baby, I was ecstatic. It was SO great seeing an old friend and getting to meet her new family.

It blows my mind how big he is getting. BLOWS.MY.MIND. I know I sound like a broken record every time I say that, but this past year has gone by SO fast.

It feels like every time I do a session with this family, it rains on us. I jokingly told the I think they're doing a rain dance before all our sessions. This past session, I was confident we were in the clear. I checked the forecast all weekend and I KNEW that we were good to go.

Apparently their "rain dance" worked, because 20 minutes into our session, the rain came.

We ended up sticking it out and getting some sweet shots.

Sweet Roxie

I love the name Roxie. LOVE IT.

Roxie was such a sweet angel during our entire photo session. It was obvious that her mom and dad were doing a great job with her, as they adjust to their new life. They were sleep-deprived and tired, but their love for their new baby girl was SO obvious.

And I find it hard to believe that this sweet girl is keeping them up all night. :)

Ellie: 4 Days Old

When I was growing up, I remember Natalie running around my house with my little sister, Tori. They were always laughing and playing. In elementary school, they were inseparable. Thanks to Facebook, Natalie and I were able to reconnect. I was so thrilled when she asked me to do her newborn pictures. I can't believe how fast time has flown and that Natalie is a mommy.

Ten on Thursday

1. Life is starting to feel better. I'm not sure if it's because we're getting in a groove, or the fact that Zachary is sleeping 10-12 hours every night now, but I'm finally feeling like I'm gaining a little control. I'll probably lose that control tomorrow. :)

2. Elizabeth Wiggs Photography is getting a makeover. In the next month or so, I hope to launch my new blog, with my new logo. I'm REALLY excited about these changes.

3. I HAVE to stop going to antique stores. This week, I purchased two new chairs and two vintage suitcases for props. If you're ever wanting me to provide props for your sessions, please just let me know.

4. Sydney was in town last weekend and we had an amazing time. Syd loves Princess and the Frog. She wanted to make Beignets the way they do in the movie, with honey on top and powdered sugar. We listened to New Orleans-Style Jazz music while we ate. I put my "all-natural" eating on hold for the morning. I think Beignet Mornings may become a tradition in our house.

We call this Syd's "morning look."

5. Chappy is a pretty important part of Sydney's life. He goes everywhere with her. While we were making up Syd's bed this week, we found Chappy underneath the covers. Needless to say, I'm headed to the post office TODAY.

6. I got to shoot this couple's engagement session this week. I have a feeling she's been on the look-out for a sneak peek. I promise it's coming soon! I've been pretty swamped and am trying to get caught up. But again, it's coming SOON.

7. Ten on Thursdays is a bit more overwhelming than I expected it to be. I'm considering doing a Five on Friday. Thoughts?

8. My recipe this week is from Heavenly Homemakers website. It is applesauce bread and is SO good.

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup rapadura or 1/2 cup honey
1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. baking soda
1/4 t. sea salt
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. nutmeg
3/4 cup applesauce
2 eggs
1/4 cup butter, melted
Mix dry ingredients. Make a well in the center and add applesauce, eggs and butter. Stir well. Pour into a buttered bread pan or stone. Bake for 45-55 minutes at 350 degrees, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the loaf comes out clean.

9. I gained 47 pounds while pregnant. There. I said it. 47 pounds. Our new eating habits have helped me lose "almost" all of that. But more importantly than appearance, I feel a LOT better. I still have not started working out. I can only imagine how good I will feel if I incorporate that.

10. Our CSA starts next Thursday. I cannot wait to share all our goods.

I'm really excited about Allison and Jared's wedding this summer. Right now, they live several hours apart as Jared serves in the armed forces. They get to see each other every few months and have spent their entire relationship apart. I got to photograph them when Jared was in town a few weeks ago. It was SO obvious how much they love each other. I didn't have to pose them AT ALL. This was just how playful they were...

I'll be so happy to see them get married and for them to finally get to be together.

Andrew and Caitlin: April 17, 2010

Andrew and Caitlin chose to see each other before the actual wedding ceremony. When they did, Andrew emotionally wiped the tears from his eyes as Caitlin walked down the aisle. Five hours later, Caitlin walked down the aisle again; this time to take her vows. In that moment, Andrew again had tears in his eyes as he stared at his bride.

It's been a long time since I've witnessed two people so madly in love. It was obvious they had both waited so long for this day.

Caitlin and Andrew, it was an honor to be a part of your special moment.

Ten on Thursday

1. This sweet thing is going to be in town tomorrow. I cannot wait!

2. I've had plans to get some updated pictures of Sydney on Saturday, while she's here in town. Unfortunately, this is what the forecast looks like right now.

3. I got to talk to my brother today. They live in Central Asia. I miss them more than they'll ever know. It was so good to hear his voice.

4. My friend, Katie, and I loaded the boys up this week for a small day trip to Whiteville. Katie wanted to go to the Mennonite bakery, so while we were there, we had lunch at a local restaurant and then went and checked out the place where the food from our CSA is grown.

(I know Zachary's straps are loose here. I had already loosened them up to get him out of the car, when I remembered I wanted a picture of the boys.)

5. I found a recipe this week for homemade granola. It is the best thing I've made in a LONG TIME. We eat it as cereal in the mornings. The recipe came from Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Cookbook.

Ingredients:
2 cups quick cook oatmeal
1 cup mixed nuts (hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts)
1/4 cup of mixed seeds (I used all sunflower seeds because I couldn't find mixed seeds at the store)
3/4 cup shredded coconut (we don't like coconut, so I left this out)
1 tsp ground cinammon
1 1/2 cups of dried fruit (we used raisins)
5 tablespoons of maple syrup or honey (I used honey)
5 tablespoons of olive oil

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Put your dry granola ingredients, including the coconut and cinnamon but not the dried fruit on a sheet pan. Stir well and smooth out. Drizzle with syrup or honey and a little olive oil and stir again. Place the pan in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes (ours only took 10-15 minutes). Every five minutes or so, take the granola out and stir it, then smooth with a wooden spoon and place back into the oven. When the granola is nice and golden, remove and mix in the dry fruit. Let it cool. Once it's cooled, serve with milk or natural yogurt. It should last for about two weeks.

6. I'm LOVING my spring sessions lately.

7. My friend and fellow photographer, Kristen Reed, came into town from Jackson, TN this week. We decided to get our families together to enjoy a nice night out. While we were together, we grabbed a few pictures of each of our families for each other. They are such a precious family.

These are a couple of my favorites that Kristen took. She's SO great.

8. I just realized that Zach and I don't have a side of the bed. I don't know if that makes us odd, but we just climb into bed and however we land, that's how we sleep. We DO, however, trade pillows. He likes the firm ones, I like the feathery ones.

9. As long as I can remember, my jaw would lock up on me. Technically, it's popping out of place, I think. I can still eat and stuff, but I can't open my mouth wider than about an inch. Usually, it will pop back into place within a couple hours. However, the day before Zachary was born, it popped out of place and hasn't gone back since. That's been almost THREE MONTHS. I'm scared to talk to a dentist about it because I think they may have to break it.

10. Zach and I LOVE The Ellen Show. LOVE IT. If you're familiar with the show, then you'll know about Ellen's "Bad Paid For Photos." Every time it comes on, Zach tells me that I should submit this picture. It's my 5th grade photo.

A Day With a Dear Friend...

This couple just screams fun...

I spent all day in Jackson, TN on Saturday, photographing Caitlin and Andrew's wedding. They are such a loving couple that really know how to do commitment.

I'll have MUCH more from their wedding later this week, but first, I have to show a little love to my girl, Anne-Camille, who came all the way from Mountain Home, AR to help me shoot this wedding. As she pointed out, we haven't seen each other in almost a year. We talk all the time, so I didn't realize how long it had been since we'd actually seen each other. It was SO much fun working together, talking ISO, Aperature, Cameras, Flashes, Photoshop, Lightoom, and all the other nerdy photographer stuff that no one else in my life cares about.

It was also nice to catch each other in action throughout the day. Anne-Camille, it was SO much fun. Let's not let it be another year before we do it again!

Ten on Thursday

1. Most importantly today, I'm SO excited to be able to publish this picture! The secret is out! I'm SO excited for my little sister and her hubby!

2. Syd's tests came back and everything is normal. Whew! Apparently, it was just a fluke infection that caused her lymph node to flare up. Thanks so much for all your prayers.

3. We have a LOT of projects going on around the Wiggs house. We have several things we want to accomplish before trying to put our house back on the market this summer. The first is to fix (or create) the garden in front of our house. That garden had been neglected ever since we moved into the house, due to a massive garden in the middle of our yard that took all of our attention. We finally sodded over that one and are focusing our attention to the front of the house. I have big plans for this garden in a couple of weeks. I can't wait to share pictures.

4. I've been back at work for several weeks now, but my first wedding of the season is this weekend. I'm SO excited. I'll also be working with HER. I'm looking forward to catching up.

5. Zachary's baby dedication was this weekend. It was something I will remember and cherish as long as I'm alive. I can't believe how many people were there to support him. His aunts, uncles, grandparents, great grandparents, and great-cousin were all there. The Lajuenesses and the Bruces also came. He is one loved kid! Thank you so much to everyone that came.

6. Our cow arrived on Friday, and on Saturday, Zach and I shared one of the best steaks we've ever had. I'm still researching beef farmers in the area to make sure we're getting the best deal for future purchases, but in the meantime, we're enjoying this. I've had a lot of people ask what it looks like when it's brought to us. It pretty much just looks like the freezer at a meat market. Here's a picture of our deep freezer now.

I've heard from SO many people who are now doing this same thing and have offered inspiring tips. I LOVE that the word seems to be spreading. I really feel hopeful that our kids may be in for a healthier future than the rest of us if we keep it up.

7. I've really enjoyed getting to spend some time with family over the past couple of weeks. I say it all the time, but I am so blessed with so much love. It's overwhelming sometimes. Dan and Tami, we've missed you!

8. My friend, Kim Jay, posted THIS on her blog today. I was inspired by her candid honesty.
Not to mention, she pretty much summed up so much of what I feel every day.

9. I also had a great conversation on the phone with this photographer today. We could have talked for hours. I LOVE networking with so many fantastic photographers. Thanks, girl, for a great talk. I can't wait to catch up again soon!

10. I promised to post more recipes from our "Quest to Health," so here goes. My mother-in-law grows zucchini every year, so I'm always looking for good recipes. I found this recipe on Whole Foods website, and loved it.

Thick rounds of summer squash seared in a piping hot pan — cast iron is best — until just blackened, then tossed with a fragrant fresh basil and lemon vinaigrette.

Ingredients
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
2 large green zucchini

Method
For the vinaigrette, in a small bowl, mix together olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, fresh basil and salt.

For the zucchini, slice zucchini into large rounds. Warm a 10-inch skillet (cast iron is best) until very hot. Place zucchini in pan and sear over high heat, until blackened, 2 to 3 minutes. Flip onto other side and sear additional 2 to 3 minutes, until both sides are blackened.

Place zucchini on a large platter. Spoon vinaigrette over zucchini. Serve warm.

Matt and Jennifer: Sneak Peek

Ten On Thursday

1. Thank you so much to everyone who showed support for Sydney last week. We're still waiting on more test results, but hopefully, we'll know more on Monday.

2. I'm SO grateful for my support system. Now that I'm back to work, I can't keep Zachary on the weekends. Zach keeps him most of the time, but every other week, Zach has to work on Saturdays and he spends a LOT of time in Missouri with Syd. When that happens, Zachary stays with either my Mom and Dad or my sister and her husband. All four of them have full-time jobs, but eagerly jump in to help with Zachary. I can't even begin to explain how blessed I am to have them all in my life. I LOVED this picture I grabbed of Tori, Lee and Zachary last week. His expression makes me smile.

3. I'm loving the weather! We had our first "grill-out" with friends last week! Kabobs and grilled zucchini. Matt and Jennifer did a GREAT job. This weekend, I'm doing a couple's session with them. I can't wait to show those off!

4. Our deep freezer is being delivered today, and our quarter of a cow comes tomorrow. Our CSA starts the first week of May. In the meantime, I'm enjoying some goods from Backerman's Bakery in Whiteville (a town just on the other side of Somerville, TN). It's a mennonite bakery that sells fresh bread, farm eggs, farm milk, meat with no preservatives, and lots of other goodies. I came home with lunch meat, milk, eggs, and some honey butter. I'm hoping to make it back up there today with my brother and sister-in-law.

5. On our quest to a healthier lifestyle, I've found a website that I LOVE. My brother introduced me to the website, http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/. It's FILLED with easy recipes that are made from whole wheat, whole grain, all natural products. And they are GOOD. So far, I've made apple sauce bread, honey wheat bread and homemade granola bars.

6. I've had SEVERAL people email me, asking me about recipes that I'm using and how we're trying to clear out processed foods and enriched sugars and flours. Truthfully, it hasn't been hard for me. That's the shocking part. It's MUCH easier than I expected. The food is GREAT and I feel SO good that my body is filled with things that won't stick with me for years. I'm going to try hard to share some of my favorite recipes each week, in hopes of being able to pass it on. On Monday, we had eggplant parmesan. I pretty much made this recipe up. I sliced the eggplant in thin, round circles. In a bowl, I combined fresh, shredded parmesan cheese with basil, oregano, parsley, italian season and garlic salt. I then cracked two eggs in a side bowl. I dipped the eggplant pieces into the eggs, and then coated it with the parmesan mixture. Then, I fried it in a skillet in a small amount of Olive Oil. As soon as it got brown, I put it in a baking pan. I topped the eggplant with a little tomato sauce and then covered it with Mozzarella Cheese. I baked it for about 30 minutes on 350 degrees (until the cheese on top turned brown). It was a LOT easier than it sounds, and SO good. My husband generally likes to have a meat with his meal every night, but he loved this.

7. Zach and I celebrated our anniversary a couple weeks ago. We went to the Beignet Cafe (my favorite place right now) in Downtown Memphis. And, YES, I gave up my "quest for health" for the night for some beignets and coffee. SO good! Thanks, Siglers, for the heads up on the Cafe. After that, we had dinner at Pearl's Oyster House. Then, we walked around on Beale Street and played with my new camera. LOVED IT. Thanks, honey for a great night!

8. We took Zachary to have his feet painted at "Paint a Piece." They had a coupon for a free tile for a baby. He pretty much hated it. I'm not so sure about our artistic abilities, but we enjoyed it. He did not like it AT ALL. We haven't picked it up yet, so I'll be curious to see how it turns out.

9. I have several family members that are coming into town this weekend, for Zachary's dedication. I'm overwhelmed by the number of friends and family that want to be there to support us in that. I say it all the time, but we are blessed with so many great relationships.

10. I had a maternity session this week. It was my first time meeting her, but we immediately hit it off. A couple days later, she sent me a picture from her 4-D ultrasound. Her sweet baby was smiling in the picture! I've never seen anything like it! It was just too cute not to share! I can't wait to meet sweet little Pierson in person!

2 Months Old

I cannot believe that our little Zachary is already two months. I know everyone says it, but we fall more and more in love with him every second.

A few things going on with him right now, at two months.

-He's beginning to smile more and more. He still seems to be a little bit on the serious side, but is definitely giving us good smiles.
-He LOVES to nap. LOVES IT. He almost always stops crying as soon as he hits his crib.
-He's sleeping 6-7 hours almost every night. We LOVE IT when he gives us a good 8-9 hours.
-He is struggling with a little bit of eczema and hates it when we have to put lotion on him.
-He spit up for the first time this past week.
-He's had a couple of tummy aches this week and we've discovered he LOVES to cuddle when he doesn't feel good.

Ten on Thursday: Sydney Style

The past couple of days have been a whirlwind for us. Late Tuesday night, we received word that Sydney was going to have to have surgery the next morning to remove what we thought was a brachial cyst from her neck. Zach and I quickly jumped into action, rearranging our schedules and plans to get to Missouri so we could be with her. My Mom is, thankfully, on spring break this week, so she kept Zachary for us for the day.

Syd's neck started to swell last Friday, but the doctors thought it would clear up with some antibiotics. Unfortunately, it didn't improve at all. Zach went to spend the day with Syd on Sunday, and the knot was still there, about the size of a baseball. After running some tests, the doctors decided it was probably a brachial cyst and needed to perform a surgery to remove it.

During the surgery the doctors discovered Syd's brachial cyst was actually a swollen lymph node. We've had a LOT of people ask us what that means. We won't know until the test results come back, hopefully on Monday. BUT, we're hopeful that it was an inflammatory reaction to some sort of strep or bronchitis in her lymph nodes.

After the surgery, she was in a LOT of pain and really struggling, but she handled it like a champ. I was SO proud of her, her mom AND her dad for holding it together during the process. It was SO hard to see her in so much pain.

I talked to her tonight and she is back to her old self, laughing and telling us about all the great food she got to eat in the hospital.

As far as my "Ten on Thursday" goes, I decided to do a post on what makes Sydney Carlene SO special.

1. Her sense of humor and ability to make us laugh- ALL THE TIME.
2. The way she loves to watch any movie that involves any kind of love story AND how quick she is to turn off a movie when it starts to get creepy and scary.
3. Her love for sports, while being SUPER GIRLY.
4. The way she dances
5. Her perfectionist attitude
6. How happy she gets when everyone else is happy.
7. The way she gets shy and awkward when things turn serious.
8. The way she LOVES to cuddle with her daddy.
9. How protective she is over BOTH her little brothers.
10. How she would MUCH rather buy things for other people than buy things for herself- she LOVES to give.

I know she's not my daughter, but I love her SO much and am SO proud of her every single day. I'm proud of her mom and dad for the woman they've helped her to become. This has been a rough week for her, but I'm SO proud of the way she's handled it. Sydney Carlene, we love you more than you'll ever realize. We're SO proud of you and love you SO much.

June Sessions

June Sessions

I've had dozens inquiries about sessions for the summer. Right now, I am booking two months in advance, which means I'll be booking for June beginning this Thursday, on April 1st. The only problem is that I've got a couple weddings that month AND I will be going on vacation with my family, which means I only have four spots available. They will go on a first come, first serve basis- to the first people that email me beginning April 1st. I had one person ask me if that starts at midnight, so I guess the answer is yes. I probably won't respond until the next morning, but yes.

I will begin booking for July on May 1st.

Unfortunately, I know I'm going to have to turn quite a few people way, BUT I've been so blessed lately to be connected with SO many fantastic photographers in the area. IF I can't fit you in, I will HAPPILY refer you to some AMAZING women.

In the meantime, here are some sessions I'm trying to finish up now.

Ten On Thursday

1. My anniversary was yesterday, but Zach and I are going out on Saturday night to celebrate. He was plans for the evening, but won't tell me. I'm REALLY excited! In the meantime, I walked into the bathroom last night to find a bubble bath filled with bath oils and rose petals. This morning, I found this when I opened my computer. My husband is SO great.

2. I ordered some backdrops for the spring and they arrived yesterday. I used Zachary as a model to show them off. I LOVE the colors.

Last week I promised I would do a brief tutorial on how I do my indoor sessions and I've had several inquiries, so here goes. The most important thing is to find a window with SOFT natural light. That basically means you want to use the side of the house where the sun is not shining directly into it. If you have windows that face the north, these will almost always be perfect. Windows facing the south will not work great, unless it's an overcast day. Also, the bigger the windows, the better. I have a floor length window on the north side of my house that I use for almost all of Zachary's pictures right now.

I have a backdrop support system that I take to people's homes, BUT you could easily set up a couple of chairs backwards, side by side and tape the fabrics to them. For newborns, I have a bean bag chair that I use. For children or babies big enough to sit, I'll just lay another peace of fabric on the ground or use a long enough backdrop that can be used in the back and then taped down to the floor. Also, I'm installing hardwood floors in this room in the next month or so. When that happens, hardwood floors make for a GREAT shot.

If you're planning on having me come to your home for a newborn session, this is a great way to prepare. Start scouting your home for the best natural light. If you don't have any, my home is always available.

3. I've been getting focused and trying to finish up my taxes and financing for the year. Every year, if I save money, I allow myself one big purchase for the business. Last year, it was a new computer. This year, I'm investing in a new camera. Not just any camera, but my DREAM camera. I'm SO excited. The only way I could afford it was to buy it used off ebay. The seller said it is in "like-new" condition. She better be right! :) It should arrive in a week or so. I can't wait!

4. I found a tick on my body this week. A TICK. I haven't found a tick on myself since I was a kid and I would go exploring in the woods. I had a photo shoot this weekend, where we walked a nature trail. I guess that's where I got it?!? I think the session will be worth it.

5. Zachary is 7 weeks this week...

A few things going on. His naptimes are MUCH better. He's getting plenty of sleep during the day, which seems to be helping his sleeping at night. He slept 6 1/2 hours last night and 7 1/2 the night before that. He LOVES taking naps. LOVES IT. He'll start getting fussy around the time he needs to take a nap. The SECOND I lay him in his crib, he stops crying. Sometimes he'll lay in bed for an hour before falling asleep, just giggling and playing. If I try to pick him up, he starts crying again. The child is obviously very independent and appreciates his alone time.

6. Yesterday was insanely gorgeous outside! I got to spend the afternoon with this AMAZING family! Much more to come...

7. I'm getting together with SEVERAL good girlfriends for a painting party next weekend. We're all supposed to bring canvases and paint together. I've never been much of a painter AT ALL, but the idea of a group of girls getting together to craft and laugh sounds like a LOT of fun.

8. I took this video of Zach playing with Zachary and Bryant the other day. This game went on for about 20-30 minutes before I pulled out the camera. I didn't get as much as I would have liked, but it made me laugh and pretty much never got old.

9. Speaking of Bryant, he is at the "salon" today, getting a major haircut. I told the groomer to pretty much shave him. I know that he is SO gorgeous because of his hair, but the hair that is rolling through our house is getting REALLY obnoxious, especially when it ends up in Zachary's mouth. Zach dropped him off today and asked the groomer not to shave it completely, but maybe just cut it real short. I'm REALLY curious to see what it looks like. In the meantime, Bear is enjoying being the center of attention today.

10. This cookbook arrived in the mail yesterday. I'm SO excited about the recipes AND the new TV show Jamie Oliver has out.

Our Love Story

It's been exactly three years since I followed my heart and made one of the best decisions of my life.

For those of you who knew us six years ago when we started dating, know that the first couple of years of our dating life were filled with a lot of ups and downs. We were both getting ready to graduate college and trying to figure out what kind of life we wanted to create. We were both trying to decide if our futures included each other. Quite frankly, we were not quite ready to grow up yet. We were both a little too selfish to truly appreciate each other. I was filled with pride, not wanting to admit that I "needed" anyone. Zach was in a place of transition and didn't want to feel committed to anyone. Over and over again, we decided that we didn't need to be together. We both agreed that our futures held something better.

But over and over again, we kept running into each other and kept coming back to each other. It doesn't make a lot of sense, but the best way I can describe it is "gravity." As much as we both didn't want to admit that we wanted to be together, it just kept happening.

I will never forget the day that Zach walked into my apartment after a year and a half of our roller coaster relationship. He looked me in the eye and said "Liz. I'm not playing around anymore. I want to be with you forever. I want to grow up. I want to marry you. I can't imagine ever loving someone else. I don't want to lose you and I won't lose you. Will you please let me try to be better for you?" In that moment, we made a decision that we would try our best to stop being selfish and quit being scared of being vulnerable and decided to try to love each other unconditionally. I told him that there were no guarantees, but I'd give it a try.

Over the next year and a half, I fell deeply in love with a different man. I fell in love with a man who was giving and kind. He was thoughtful and considerate. He pointed me toward God and showed me what Godly love looks like. In a way, he helped me understand God's love for me better. I assume this is because I put my guard down and let myself trust him.

A year and a half later, I married the most incredible man I had ever met. He wasn't the man I met back in college, but he was the man I was privileged enough to watch him become. We instantly became a family of three (which is a whole other love story of its own).

Since then, we moved into our new home.

We then became a family of five. :)

And now, our family continues to grow.

We often joke that our love story isn't one filled with candlelight and roses. We often joke about what we'll tell our children about how we met and what we'll say when they ask if it was love at first sight. BUT, I can confidently know that I'll be able to tell them that we fell in love with each other when we decided to start thinking about each other first. Our love for each other is a decision and we have to make it every day. Our love for each other resembles the way we love God... committing to it over and over again, no matter how many times we mess up.

Those first couple of years were rough, but I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. I am a better woman for it. Zach is a better man for it. Our children will be loved better because of it. I LOVE that God redeemed our past to give us the amazing love we have today.

I am proud to say that I am married to the man that God designed for me. I love him for a million reasons. No, we're not perfect and we drive each other crazy sometimes. BUT, I can't wait to continue to make the decision to love him for the rest of our lives.

Ten on Thursday

1. My little man turned 6 weeks old yesterday. How did that happen? Right now, he is beginning to give us pretty good smiles. He still has all his hair and is sleeping ok. He pretty regularly wakes up around 3:00 for a middle of the night feeding and then again at 6:30 or 7:00. Not too bad. His naps are pretty rough during the day, so I'm working on that. I did the math, and I don't think he's sleeping enough during the day, which may account for some of his recent fussiness. We also put a Baby Einstein video on the other day and he was fascinated with it for about 5 minutes. It was pretty cute. I'm working to stimulate him while he is awake. I think I may invest in a playmat today. Does anyone else have any other tricks? As far as growth goes, I'm still not sure. I'll probably have to wait until our 2 month check-up in a couple of weeks. He seems to be growing, but nothing too noticable. He still seems skinny to me and is still fitting into a LOT of his newborn clothes. I'm trying to get him in some 0-3 month stuff, but he is still pretty small for it.

2. Today is the start of March Madness. My brackets are in a couple of competitions, including my family one. The trash talking has officially started. It's a tradition in our home that Zach is taking off work the first day of the tournament. So, he's at home and I'm getting ready to leave, for a little alone time.

3. It is GORGEOUS outside today... about 67 degrees. We took a little family walk today. LOVE IT.

4. I spotted the first sign of spring on our walk.

5. This forecast stresses me out. It's GORGEOUS today and tomorrow, but look at the weekend. I have 5 sessions scheduled for the weekend. Wouldn't you know it? I'm wondering how many sessions are going to get rescheduled.

6. Zach is running in another half marathon Sunday morning. I'm nervous for him all over again!

7. This little cutie stopped by my house for a session today. We took a few shots in a field about 100 yards from my house and then went inside for some studio shots. For my indoor sessions, I like to create little mini-studios. I'm lucky enough to have a house filled with big windows on all sides of our home. In the next couple of weeks, I plan to do a post on creating great indoor studios.

8. I had an encounter this week that broke my heart. I was in an elevator with a woman who was absolutely smitten with Zachary. She went on and on about how beautiful he was and how she loved everything about him. About 2 minutes later, I heard her utter some of the most hateful remarks as she spotted an interracial couple. At first, I laughed inside because, little did she know, my son, who she found so beautiful, is a product of the thing she hates so much. Next, my heart began to break, as I realized how much hatred filled her heart. Instead of making an issue about it (as I normally would do), I decided to pray for her. I've been convicted lately about my lack of grace for people who frustrate me.

9. I've spent the past day texting back and forth with my sister about the big haircut she's planning to get today. I am meeting her at the salon in a couple of hours. That's the great thing about having a sister. We totally get each other when it comes to things like this. I'm SO excited. Before and After pictures to come...

10. I've been overwhelmed this week as I balance working from home and being a stay-at-home mom. Please be patient with me on emails. I promise, I will make it a priority to check them at least once a day. Try to give me 24-48 hours from the time you contact me.

I'm officially back to work. I kicked things off this afternoon, with a maternity session with this GORGEOUS mom as she awaits the arrival of her new little man. This is such a great, fun family!

New Product: Storyboards

I'm SO excited about introducing this new product. These are storyboards, and are available in a variety of shapes and sizes from 8x8 to 30x40. The collage is laminated with a protective coating and then heat infused onto a 3/4" board with beveled edges. You can display it, like I did, on an easel OR can mount it on the wall. It comes ready to hang with a keyhole opening on the back.

I will work with you to design a collage with the pictures you select. You will have the option of including a quote, but it's not required.

Ten On Thursday

For awhile now, I've been seeing "Ten on Tuesday" posts from many bloggers in the blogging world. I like the concept, but Thursdays are better for me to sit down and reflect on things going on with us throughout the week. So, I am going to attempt to try weekly "Ten on Thursday" posts.

Here goes...

1. I'm returning to work tomorrow, kicking things off with a super exciting maternity session. I cannot WAIT! I have to bring Zachary with me since it's a weekday session. I'm saying MANY prayers that he cooperates.

2. I think Zachary hit a growth spurt or something this week. He's been fussy all week, needing to eat all day long, not sleeping good. He finally got about 6 1/2 hours of sleep straight last night. Whew. We both feel MUCH better today.

3. I've had many people ask me about our involvement in the CSA and the local beef farmer. We're using a CSA in Whiteville, TN and a beef farmer in Bartlett, TN. Click these links for more information about each of them.

4. In addition to buying local, I've been trying to adjust my diet in an attempt to weed out a lot of refined sugars and flours. This has been the hardest adjustment, but I feel SO much better and I am amazed at how many things are out there that are D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S, and filled with natural sugars. I've only been doing it for about two weeks now, but my body already feels SO clean.

5. March Madness is right around the corner, which is VERY exciting. My immediate family has a tradition where we all take place in a bracket together. I'm not sure why, but it really is one of my favorite times of the year. I'm not sure if it's the internet trash talking that happens between 10 grown adults OR the fact that it feels like we are actually all together- even though we're scattered all over the world, but I LOVE it.

6. We had such a great time on our "first night out" since Zachary was born. Jenn's birthday party was GREAT. It was so good to sit back and enjoy some grown-up fun! It was also nice meeting all of Jennifer's friends. I'm so happy she has so many fantastic women in her life!

7. Zachary will be six weeks old in six days, which means I'll be given the ok to start this...

A group of girlfriends and I are going to do the video together. I'm never enjoyed working out that much, so this will be interesting. BUT, I'm eager to get back into shape. Hopefully I'll at least make it to do the end of the 30 days. We'll see...

8. Zach and I recently joined Netflix and I'm SO upset we didn't do it earlier. We LOVE movies and this is SO great. I used to work at Blockbuster and could rent as many movies as I wanted for free. I would always check out the craziest, most obscure movies, just because I could. I feel like that, all over again. It's definitely worth the $9.00 a month.

9. I'm one of the few people that actually gets a little sad to see winter pass. I LOVE the warmth of the fireplace, while it's cold outside. I LOVE cuddling under blankets. I love scarves and boots. HOWEVER, the spring thunderstorms almost provide me with the same warmth. Last night, we got a huge storm. As long as they're harmless, I LOVE everything about them...

10. I have been trying to take "weekly" pictures of Zachary for the past few weeks. He's changing SO much, I don't want to miss it. I will probably relax a little after I take his 6 week pictures next week, but for now, I'm just trying to soak up every little detail. Here are his 5-week-pictures.

This look on his face CRACKS me up. I don't know why. He makes it all the time, and every time, I just smile.

He's definitely starting to outgrow his newborn clothes. But he seems to be growing much faster in length, rather than weight. All of his clothes are still big, but his legs and arms are way too long for them. I love that this picture shows his length.

I've always said that I REALLY want a fat, chunky baby with LOTS of rolls. While Zachary seems to be a bit thinner right now, I'm still excited about the few rolls he's sporting.

This is my FAVORITE picture. He's still not giving us big smiles, but he does make little smirks. I know his smiles are coming soon. This is about as good as we get right now. I LOVE it.

This is his face he makes while he poops, which I'm sure is completely inappropriate to be blogging about, but I can't help it. It's TOO cute and funny.

Spring Saturday

A few things going on around here today.

-Today is my last Saturday at home with my two boys before returning back to work. I'm trying to soak it up now, but at the same time I'm itching to get back behind my camera!

-It is 60 degrees in Memphis today, which means that I'm giving myself permission to think it is springtime. After being 9 months pregnant for most of the winter and cooped up in the house for the past few weeks, Zachary will be staying with my parents for a few hours tonight, while Zach and I get out to celebrate the birthday of this amazing girl! It's been a crazy year for her; one filled with lots of challenges and new experiences. She deserves to celebrate!!

OH, and since the temperatures are climbing out of the 50s today, I'm giving myself permission to wear a sundress to dinner tonight. Yep, that's right. I'm pretty sure I might be breaking some sort of rule, but I'm doing it anyway. I LOVE this dress I found.

-For the past few months, Zach and I have been having a LOT of conversations about our food, what's in it, and where it comes from. I became really conscious of it while pregnant, and even more so now that I'm nursing. After a lot of research, some VERY helpful information from my friend, Emily, AND a motivational boost from the new movie, Food Inc., Zach and I have made a lot of decisions this week. This week, we purchased our first part of a cow. We bought a quarter of the cow from a local beef farmer here in town. The cows are raised on a farm, grass-fed, and are free of hormones and msg. We also joined a CSA and bought a share, so that our vegetables will be locally grown and fresh every week. I plan on doing an extensive post on this later.

-Zachary is 4 1/2 weeks old right now and we're waiting for him to smile. Zach and I are both working like crazy to be the first one to get him to smile (Although I keep telling him there's no use in him trying. I know he's saving that first grin for mommy). I've heard this happens at different age marks, but is the 4-5 week mark average for those first giggles?

-I absolutely resent my family for introducing me to "Bejeweled Blitz" on Facebook. For starters, I have NO clue how their scores are as high as they are. Secondly, I'm SO competitive, I can't stop playing until I figure out how to get my score up there with theirs. I spend way too much time on there when I have a million other things that need to be done.

-Zach and I have been digging through old pictures, to compare pictures of Sydney and Zachary. We came across a stash of her six week pictures, and I'm anxious to see how they will compare when he's that age. In the meantime, we also came across this picture from my old blog. A couple years ago, we had a little too much fun with a baby predictor website. This is the baby they predicted for us. We're thinking he doesn't resemble Zachary.

-I've got a new product that I'm interested in sharing soon for my clients. Be looking for that soon. I'm SO excited about it.

-My sister recently became involved in a really neat project that I'm going to be teaming up with her on soon. I'm excited to share that as well!

Wiggs Dance Party

While Syd was here, she found an old Hannah Montana outfit that Tori gave her for Christmas a year ago. She decided to put it on and we had a dance party.

Here's a video of Sydney doing a dance that Zach taught her. If you're wondering, she's looking at Zach, who is also doing the dance. I have a video with a clip of Zach doing the dance with her, but he pretty much threatened to leave me if it ended up on my blog, so you'll have to live with this.

Syd wasn't the only one getting her dance on. Zach and I were busy trying to choreograph a dance in the background when she took the camera and decided to get a video of Zachary. I loved that she did. This is the first video we have of him. It's a reminder that I need to get more.

Sydney Meets Zachary for the First Time

I just realized I never blogged these pictures. These were taken from my point and shoot a couple weeks ago when Sydney met Zachary for the first time. They spent the whole weekend cuddling and staring at each other. Every time Syd would hand Zachary back to me he would start crying. I think it's safe to say he already loves his big sister!

One Month Old (And More)

My little man is one month old today. I cannot believe how fast time is flying by!

A few random things happening this week.

-His skin is getting drier and drier. He's starting to peel, like he's been at the beach.
-He usually eats around 10:00-10:30 at night and will wake up again at 3:00 to eat, and then again at 6:00.
-He fights his sleep like CRAZY. It usually takes about 15 minutes of crying before he falls asleep. We've made a purchase this week that I hope will help with that.
-He's finally taking a bottle with no fight at all. He still won't take it from me, but seems to take it easily with Zach. My parents are going to keep him for a few hours on Saturday, so hopefully, he won't give them too much trouble.
-His fingernails are getting longer and sharper, but I'm still too scared to clip them.
-His eyes are finally starting to turn brown. I think they'll be there in a week or two.
-He found Zach's finger this week and wouldn't stop sucking on it. So funny.

-He is still fighting the pacifier. He takes it sometimes, but he's definitely not dependent on it. I think I'm ok with this.
-He loves his swing, but I'm trying hard not to get him too dependent on it.
-He still sleeps SO much. I've been trying to keep him awake a bit after he eats, but he still fights it.
-I stare at him all the time, and fall more and more in love every minute. I've loved my time with him these past few weeks.
-Here are some of his precious little faces he makes. I love every single one of them...

Several other random things to share right now...

-Zachary is sharing his one-month birthday with my Dad. Today is my Dad's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one of the greatest, most supportive Dads and Paw-Paws in the world. We love you!!

-This is my last week at home before starting back to work. My first session is next week. I'm starting things off with SEVERAL maternity sessions. I'm SO excited about all of these, but a little anxious about juggling working from home and taking care of this little man.
-I've enjoyed this week. I got to spend an afternoon with a new friend, talking about photography and eating Chinese Food. Katie, I had a GREAT time.
-We had dinner with some good friends last night. We're so blessed to have such an amazing support system.
-This weekend, we're celebrating the birthday of one of my favorite people in the world! She is such an amazing person. She deserves the best birthday ever! We'll be leaving Zachary with my parents for the first time since his birth. I'm looking forward to a few hours out on the town with my man! :)
-I'm enjoying American Idol this season, but I'm still trying to choose my favorites. Right now I'm leaning towards these two.

-I'm really excited about this season of Dancing With The Stars. It looks like a great cast!
-I received a book from one of my best friends last night. I've been glued into it ever since it came. It's so honest and open. Thanks, Laurie!

-Our small group has rebirthed and is going in a new direction. I'm eager to see what's in store. I have a feeling God will be teaching me quite a bit over the next few months.
-This post is getting way too long, but I've really been focusing on the small things in my life these past few weeks and am realizing how blessed I am. I'm hoping the chaos and busyness of returning back to work won't prevent me from savoring every moment.

One Big Chunk of Love

When I photographed my nephew, Andrew's, three month session last month, he wasn't too excited about holding his head up for me. This week, he turned four months and was MORE than happy to look up at the camera . This was the first time I'd seen him since I was in the hospital. I can't believe how much he has changed in just four weeks.

3 Weeks Old

Our little man is three weeks old today. It seems like time is flying by SO fast already. It amazes me how much he's changed in just a few short days.

These days, I just want to stare at him constantly, out of fear that I'm going to miss some part of him in this moment.

Here are a few updates.

-We've nicknamed him squirmy, because when he's awake, he is squirming all over the place. He cannot be still.
-He has the sweetest, calloused lips from nursing. When the callouses heal and fall off, new ones form.
-He has EXTREMELY dry skin. His dad and I both suffer from this, so it's no surprise to us.
-He has the sweetest little outie belly button. It goes down a little more every day, so we're not sure if it will hang around.

-Right now, he wakes up about twice every night to eat. On average, we're getting 5-6 hours of sleep a night. Not too bad.
-He has some of the biggest hands and feet I've EVER seen on a baby.

-He constantly keeps his hands clenched in a tight fist and will grab anything he can get his hands on. I wonder if this means he'll grow attached to a blanket or lovey one day. Right now he loves to hold my hair.

-He is just now learning to take a bottle, which makes my life much easier, when I find the time to pump.
-He cries quite a bit when he's tired and fighting sleep. Usually we have to let him cry for about 5-10 minutes every night when we put him down.
-He makes a LOT of different faces right now; some that make me laugh out loud regularly.

-He poops or pees on at least 3-4 outfits every day. Mommy thinks it's time to change diapers.
-Right now, he is becoming much more alert, staying awake longer in the day and staring at people who are holding him. He seems as if he is starting to attempt to figure out where he is.
-I recently heard brushing a baby's hair can cause it to fall out. I've been scared to touch it ever since.
-He LOVES to be held and fusses anytime he's put down alone. We're working on this.
-We are SO madly in love with him, it's hard to get anything done around here. Laundry has piled up and I haven't cooked a meal in FOREVER (thanks SO much to everyone who has brought us food. We would be lost without you!).

In less than two hours, Sydney will meet her brother for the very first time. I'm SO excited about it, I can hardly stand it. Zach went to pick her up this afternoon and right now, they are on their way home. Eeekkk!!

In the meantime, I have several loads of laundry that need to be washed, and one that needs to be folded. The dogs need to be washed, our bed needs to be made and I need to go to the grocery store.

Instead, I'm taking pictures of this wild man and doing everything in my power to procrastinate when it comes to my "chores".

I can't help it. I love everything about him and he's changing SO fast. I love his super long hair that turns curly when it's wet. I love his chapped, calloused lips and his gorgeous eyelashes. I can't photograph this, but I love the cute little snorts he makes when he's frustrated and the way he thrashes his head around. I love watching him sleep and I love the way his eyes follow my voice when I talk to him throughout the day.

My Secret Weapon

Two nights ago, I was sitting on the couch, listening to Zachary cry from his bedroom right after we laid him down to sleep. Zach and I have agreed to let him cry for about 10-15 minutes before we go in to comfort him. Those 10-15 minutes are the longest, most miserable minutes imaginable. That night, when the 10 minutes were up, Zach went into the nursery and the crying immediately stopped. A few minutes later, Zach came back into the living room with a smile on his face. He said "I just put my hand on his chest and he fell asleep. I think he just needed to know we are still here."

The next thing I knew, I had tears streaming down my face. I wouldn't generally consider myself a cryer or that much of an emotional person. However, these past two weeks have thrown me for a loop; feeling things I've never experienced.

I'm pretty sure Zach was pretty freaked out as soon as the tears came. I then looked up at him with my red, swollen face and said "I have no idea what I'm going to do when you go back to work. You're so good with him and I don't have a clue what I'm doing."

He quickly wrapped his arms around me and rocked me, saying, "Baby. You're a great mom. I can already tell you're so good with him. You're going to be great. And I will be home every evening to take over for you."

And in that minute, I was reminded why I love him so much.

While I usually don't think I need it, he provides me so much strength. He keeps me focused. He believes in me. He helps me in ways I can't imagine. His love is SO constant. He is an AMAZING father. From the minute Zachary entered the world, Zach has amazed me.

Today, Zachary and I are alone in the house for the first time since he was born. Zach is back at work. It's only 10:00, and he's already checked in on us to see how we are doing.

Baby, thank you SO much for your confidence in me. Thanks for putting up with my crazy insecurities. We both love you so much and can't wait to see you tonight.

Some of My Favorite Little Men: Part 3 (Grant)

Throughout the past two years of photographing babies and children, I've heard a lot of pregnancy stories. For some women, pregnancy comes easily. They can literally plan their pregnancies by which month will be most convenient. For other women, the road is much more difficult, with lots of meetings with fertility specialists and months (sometimes even years) of prayer and patience.

For us, it didn't happen as easily as we'd like, but we also didn't have to take that long, hard road that so many great women have to journey down. I stopped taking birth control a little more than a year before I found out I was pregnant. Zach and I said that if something happened, then we would know it was God's timing. A few months later, I wasn't pregnant and we made the decision to be more intentional in our "trying."

Funny enough, it still wasn't God's timing and my desire to control my own life didn't work. It's amazing how many times I have to learn that same lesson over and over again. Months and months passed by and I still wasn't pregnant. It was exhausting and frustrating to say the least. About two weeks before I found out I was pregnant, I met with my obstetrician and we set a date to begin testing. I had two more months of trying before we would try to figure out "what was wrong."

Around that time, my dear friend Mandy, had begun her first month of trying. She had been off birth control for a few weeks and was excited about being a mom. I had spent that past couple of weeks on the phone with her talking about fertility and cycles. I would jokingly tell her that I knew she would get pregnant in about 5 minutes while it would probably take me years.

Sure enough, Mandy and I were at a dinner one night with a group of friends, when I jokingly looked at her and said "So, are you pregnant yet?"

She just looked up at me with a compassionate look on her face and said "Well, I wanted to talk to you about that before I told everyone."

I'm still not sure why she thought I would be anything but ecstatic for her. My only thought of sadness is that I wished so badly in that moment that we could be experiencing our pregnancies together. BUT, I was still SO happy for her and Lee and the journey they were about to take.

What I didn't know in that moment is that I was also pregnant. After I told my family about my pregnancy, Mandy was the first person I called. I was so excited to be going through this journey with her. 9 months later, Grant and Zachary were born a little less than 3 weeks a part and no doubt will be close friends as they grow older.

It may have taken Mandy only one month to get pregnant, but one thing I know is that both our sweet boys were conceived in love and prayer and they both entered the world in God's perfect timing.

I was THRILLED to be able to shoot Grant's newborn pictures. We are SO lucky to have these two as friends and this is, no doubt, one lucky man to be landing these two as parents.

Within the two weeks before Zachary's arrival into the world, I had the pleasure of photographing some of his future best friends. Andrew and Beckett both turned three months old. His other good friend, Grant, entered the world a little less than 3 weeks before him.

Our Day in the Snow

Zachary was only 5 days old when we woke up to find snow all over the ground. He is still SO small, but we couldn't resist taking him out for his first snow. We met up with some friends to go sledding behind our house. We didn't have a sled, so a cardboard box had to work. Since I can still barely sit down without a pillow, I opted against sledding. I stayed behind the camera. I haven't laughed so hard in a LONG time. Our dogs enjoyed it too! Such a fun day!

Monday Surprise... and More

Zachary's first pediatric appointment was scheduled for 9:00 AM today, about 45 minutes from our home. Last night, we actually got a good amount of sleep, so Zach and I woke up somewhat refreshed and ready to get the day started.

Zach got up out of bed to let our dogs out, before coming back into the bedroom to say "Ummm... Liz... I don't think we're going to be going to the doctor today." It wasn't long before I looked outside and saw why.

If you've been following my blog for ANY amount of time, you know I'm a HUGE sucker for snow.

So now, I'm resting on my couch, under a blanket. Zachary is napping in his swing. Zach is outside playing with the dogs. He also had a little fun doing some "snow writing."

I have the sweetest husband EVER.

Now that our plans have changed, I've made a little to-do list for today:

-Make Snow Cream
-Cuddle With Zachary
-Bundle Up Zachary and Take a Short, Family Walk in the Snow
-Cuddle With Zachary
-Cuddle With Big Zach :)

In the meantime, while I'm sitting here soaking up the calmness of this moment, I decided to use the opportunity to catch up on a little blogging.

The Green Family hit the jackpot when they scheduled their session for January. We happened to meet up on a rare, 70 degree, sunny, winter day. We actually had the girls outside in sleeveless white dresses before the session was over.

This session wrapped up a year of sessions, from maternity to one-year sessions. I have LOVED getting to know this family.

Stealing My Heart...

Right now, I'm sleep-deprived, hormonal, sore, and still trying to adjust to everything that has happened in the past 72 hours. However, every time I look at his precious little face, I fall more and more in love with him. It's more than worth it!

Obviously, as a mommy, I think he's the most precious thing in the entire world.

Here are a few pictures we took this morning, and I still have plans to take MANY MANY more.

As far as emails go, I have received several about upcoming sessions and inquiries. I will hopefully get a chance to respond to those in the next few days. Right now, I'm trying to soak up every minute with this little man and spend all my other minutes of the day trying to get some sleep.

Randomness

Lots of random things going through my head today...

1. This is the last day before Zachary gets here and I'm trying to soak it up. I have enjoyed cuddling with my husband, cuddling with my dogs and working on a crafty little Valentine project for Syd. I've got some last minute orders to finish up and get things packed. We have to be at the hospital at 4:00 AM, so we'll be spending the night with my parents tonight. One thing I'll never regret is that Zach and I really made sure we enjoyed our last night in the house, just the two of us. Thanks, baby, for a FANTASTIC night.

2. My mom asked me yesterday if I was excited. I don't think that's the appropriate word. I am filled with a mixture of emotions... some good, some bad. But, I can't stop thinking about what he looks like. I just want to meet him and hold him and kiss him. Everything else, I will try to take as it comes.

3. I am on maternity leave and am caught up on my editing, but I still have several sessions left to blog. You'll see some of those pop up on my blog in the next couple of weeks. You'll also be seeing PLENTY of pictures of our new addition, so be looking for those. My hubbie has already come up with some GREAT ideas for pictures that I'm excited to try!

4. I am overwhelmed by the love and support we've received... some by complete strangers. We've received gifts, emails and cards. I can't thank you enough (Ari, if you're reading this, your card arrived in the mail yesterday and it almost brought tears to my eyes. Thank you SO much for the encouragement. It meant SO much more than you know).

Griffin: One Year

Maternity Update, Ice, and More...

I'm finally back at home after spending a few days at my parents' house. Zach and I live in Fayette County, but are delivering at a hospital in Memphis, so when the forecast started calling for ice and snow, Zach and I decided it would be a good idea to spend the night with my parents in case I went into labor. I didn't go into labor, but we had a GREAT time. In fact, my sister and her husband spent the night as well, so the six of us spent the last few days watching movies, eating hot soup, playing games and just spending time together. It was a weekend I'll always remember.

I wanted to grab one last maternity picture before his arrival, but then when the ice happened, I wanted to make sure we recorded it for his baby journal. I LOVE this last picture.

After the ice moved in, a dare was somehow created, challenging Lee and Zach to jump into my parents' freezing pool. After about two hours of talking about it and testosterone accumulating, they actually decided to do it. My sister and I both had the video cameras out. Here are our two perspectives of their CRAZINESS.

My sweet boys: Back Inside

Now, to a maternity update... If Zachary doesn't come on his own before Wednesday, the doctors are going to induce labor. We have plans to be at the hospital at 4:00 AM Wednesday morning.

When I got married, I was overwhelmed by the love and support we received as we got ready to embark on that journey. Now, I have that feeling all over again. I cannot believe how much effort went into my baby showers. I am amazed at how incredibly talented the women in my life are.

Here are a few pictures from my shower at Ridgeway Baptist Church. That was the church I grew up in, but even though I'm not a member there anymore, all the families I grew up with remain an amazing support system.

The next weekend, my sister held a shower at her house. She, along with my amazing friends Joanna and Jennifer pulled off one of the most incredibly creative showers I've ever been a part of. As I look through the pictures, I keep noticing details they put into it.

Jennifer made all the frames you see below. She also made the chocolate suckers, along with several other crafty things. My sister made the box that is now filled with letters of encouragement from our friends. Joanna made the beautiful diaper cake. Don't I have the most talented friends ever??

I was amazed at all the people that drove into town for this shower. I'm SO blessed to have such a great support system of women in my life.

Lastly, Zach recently drove up to Missouri to see Sydney. He isn't the obsessive picture-taker that I am, but he always manages to take a couple when I'm not there-- just to make me happy. :)

Here is a picture he took of the two of them together. It makes me smile. It's SO them.

Zachary's Room

I've got SO much I want to post about maternity updates, showers, and hopefully one last effort at a maternity session this weekend, before Zachary's arrival next week.

I'm still trying to gather all those pictures together and get everything typed up. But for now, I couldn't resist posting an update of Zachary's nursery. Zach and I finally have everything together and in place.

When I first started thinking of the type of nursery I wanted, I immediately said I wanted something peaceful and calming. I also wanted it filled with photography and artwork from Zachary's family and friends.

This is the finished product:

Zach and I wanted to attempt something new and tackle a project together for the nursery. We decided to try painting these letters to go above Zachary's crib. Since neither of us are painters and have NEVER done anything like this before, we were pleased with the way they turned out.

This canvas means SOOO much to me! Months ago, at a newborn session, I spotted a painting in a nursery and fell in love with it. I showed it to my best friend, Joanna, who is also an amazing artist and she decided to create me one for Zachary's nursery. I was mesmerized as soon as I saw it and I can't stop staring at it. Besides the fact that it's gorgeous, I just see her love and hard work all over it. Thanks, Jo!

My dear friend, Jennifer made this stool for the nursery. Isn't it SO fantastic? Again, every time I look at it, I see the love it was made with. Zachary is SO blessed already to have so many people in his life that love him.

Over the past two weeks, I've had some amazing women throw me two separate showers. I've been overwhelmed by the amount of love and support we've received. God has blessed us SO much. I can't wait to show you the pictures from those showers and all the hard work that went into both of them.

One Year Sessions

It feels like this time of year is filled with newborn and one-year sessions. My ultrasound tech agreed when I asked her about it. She said it must be spring fever! :)

Here are a couple of one year sessions I did back-to-back a few Saturdays ago. It was about 5 degrees outside that day, so we kept these sessions inside. SO sweet....

First, sweet Violet. I've worked with this family several times and ADORE them. I can't believe how big she is. INSANE.

I've had the pleasure of working with this family a couple of times, but I was absolutely THRILLED when Mom asked me to do her daughter's newborn pictures.

Marlee wasn't really feeling her one year old birthday session, so her Mom and I had to trick her into a few good shots. It was a very COLD, but pretty day out, so we took her outside to play. Good mood or not- she's absolutely PRECIOUS.

Strain Family

A couple weeks ago, it ranged between 5-20 degrees here in Memphis for about a week, so I had to move many of my sessions inside my client's homes. I LOVED working with the Strain family. Besides the fact they were SO fun and laid back, they had a GORGEOUS home with gorgeous natural light flowing through their home.
